a poem: the safe side

I could have let it go
Could’ve accepted it to be
a… periodic fling?

I could have been open
Could’ve told you
that… it’s totally fine?

I could have resumed just as before
Could’ve forgotten
the… physicality?

It would have been the safe thing to do
Would’ve, should’ve, could’ve
It would’ve been a lie.

The comfortable safe side
Where it’s always kinda fine, kinda sunny, kinda kind

It’s where apparently there is no sorrow
It’s where we close our eyes to the truth
It’s where we fake our ways through

The safe side’s got that path
That one is hard to leave
Once you’re on it

Take my hand, let’s leave together

Safe is fine
But together is what I want
