a poem: sailing back

I pack my bags
I put on my coat
I close the door behind me

There is no thing left to touch
There are no eyes to look into
There will be no more reason left to stay

Except
Time after time I do look back
Time after time I open the door
Time after time I take a look into your eyes

What I see
When I see it
Takes me back to the state of longing
Takes me back to searching for a reason to stay

When I know it just won’t linger
as it never does
The certainty
The safety

Still
I’m evermore taking a chance
Just to be sailing back anew

-your tiny woman in a giant world
